Ingredients

• Qing Hao (Herba Artemisiae Annuae) 6 g,
• Zhu Ru (Caulis Bambusae in Taeniam) 9 g,
• Xian Ban Xia (Rhizoma Pinelliae) 5 g,
• Chi Fu Ling (Poria Rubra) 9 g,
• Huang Qin (Radix Scutellariae) 6 g,
• Zhi Qiao (Fructus Aurantii) 5 g,
• Chen Pi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae) 5 g,
• The prescription of Biyu San 9 g.

Explanation

Qing Hao: The principal drug, being bitter and pungent in flavor and cold in nature, clearing away pathogenic heat in Shaoyang channel.

Huang Qin: The principal drug, being bitter in flavor and cold in nature, removing the pathogenic heat in the gallbladder.

Zhu Ru and Ban Xia: Eliminating heat and resolving phlegm.

Chen Pi and Zhi Qiao: Smoothing the chest and diaphram, regulating the stomach to cause the adverse flow of Qi to go downwards.

Chi Fu Ling and The prescription of Biyu San: Clearing away heat and promoting diuresis.

The Effect of 蒿芩清胆汤

Effect

Removing heat in the gallbladder, promoting diuresis regulating the stomach and resolving phlegm.

Indications

Syndrome due to damp-heat and phlegm retained in Shaoyang channel, marked by alternate attacks of chills and fever with the former being milder than the latter as that in malaria, bitter taste in the mouth, fullness in the stomach, regurgitation of sour and bitter watery fluid or vomiting of yellow thick saliva and even nausea, hiccup, distending pain in the chest and hypochondrium region, reddened tongue with whitish greasy coating, and rapid pulse with the right slippery and the left taut; including such diseases with the above symptoms as acute cholecystitis, acute gastritis, acute hepatitis, chronic pancreatitis, etc.

Administrations

Decocted in water for oral dose to be taken twice.
