Qimen(LR14,期门) is an acupuncture point in the meridian named Jueyin Liver Meridian of Foot. Qimen is the Front-Mu Point of the liver.

Meaning

Qi, cycle; men, door.
The flanks on both sides are like an open door, where the point is located. When the Qi of meridian circulates here, it is considered as one cycle. The point is therefore named Qimen.

Location

Below the nipple, in the 6th intercostal space.

Indication

  1. Main point to treat diseases of the liver and the gallbladder.
  2. intercostal neuralgia.

Method

  1. Puncture obliquely and horizontally 0.5-0.8 cun.
  2. for the points in the intercostal space, insert the needle at the superior margin where intercostal vasculars are located to avoid hurting.
  3. deep insertion should be avoided in order not to hurt the internal organs.
