Ingredients

Explanation

Qiang Huo and Du Huo: The principal drugs, being pungent and bitter in flavor and warm in nature, removing wind, cold and dampness pathogens from the whole body.

Chuan Xiong: Promoting the circulation of blood, dispersing pathogenic wind.

Chai Hu: Being pungent in flavor and dispersing in nature, expelling the pathogens from the muscles and skin, aiding Qiang Huo and Du Huo in driving away exo-pathogens, relieving pain.

Zhi Qiao: Descending Qi.

Jie Geng: Promoting the flow of the lung-Qi.

Qian Hu: Removing phlegm.

Fu Ling: Eliminating dampness.

Gan Cao: Tempering the actions of all the other ingredients, invigorating Qi, regulating the stomach.

Sheng Jiang and Bo He: Expelling wind pathogen.

Ren Shen: Invigorating Qi to expel pathogens.

The Effect of 敗毒散

Effect

Relieving exterior syndrome by invigorating Qi, expelling pathogenic wind-dampness.

Indications

Syndrome caused by the effect of exogenous wind-cold-dampness pathogens because of the deficiency of vital Qi, marked by chills, high fever, stiff nape, pain of the limbs, no sweating, stuffy nose with deep voice, cough with sputum fullness sensation in the chest, whitish and greasy tongue coating and floating feeble pulse; including such diseases with the above symptoms as influenza, measles, rheumatic arthritis, dysentery, etc.

Administrations

Decocted in water for oral dose to be taken twice.
