Ingredients

  • Shu Fu Zi (Radix Aconiti Lateralis Preparata) 9 g,
  • Gan Jiang (Rhizoma Zingiberis) 5 g,
  • Rou Gui (Cortex Cinnamomi) 3 g,
  • Ren Shen (Radix Ginseng) 6 g,
  • Bai Zhu (parched Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae) 9 g,
  • Fu Ling (Poria) 9 g,
  • Chen Pi (Pericarpium Ctri Reticulatae) 6 g,
  • Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata) 5 g,
  • Wu Wei Zi (Fructus Schisandrae) 3 g,
  • Zhi Ban Xia (Rhizoma Pinelliae Preparata) 9 g,
  • Sheng Jiang (Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens) 3 pieces,
  • She Xiang (Moschus) 0.l g.

Explanation

Fu Zi: The principal drug, being pungent and sweet in flavor and very hot in nature, warming the interior, restoring Yang, removing cold accumulation through expelling cold pathogen.

Gan Jiang: Warming the middle-Jiao and purging cold.

Rou Gui: Warming and strengthening the kidney-Yang.

Ren Shen, Bai Zhu, Fu Ling, Gan Cao, Chen Pi and Ban Xia: Invigorating the spleen and stomach, drying dampness aru resolving phlegm.

She Xiang: Activating the flow of Qi and blood throughout the twelve channels.

Wu Wei Zi: Being sour in flavor, functioning in astringing while dispersing, working together with Ren Shen to replenish Qi and promote the production of blood.

The Effect of 回陽救急湯

Effect

Recuperating depleted Yang and rescuing the patients from collapse, replenishing Qi and promoting the circulation of blood.

Indications

Syndrome of weakness of the kidney-Yang due to direct attack of cold pathogen on the three Yin channels, marked by aversion to cold, lying with the extremities drawn up, cold limbs, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, no thirst, listlessness with desire for sleep, or shiver with cold, or dark purplish nails and lips, or vomiting of foamy fluid, pale tongue with whitish coating, and deep feeble or even unfelt pulse; including such diseases with the above symptoms as chronic colitis, chronic diarrhea, salmonellal infection and toxic dysentery.

Administrations

Decocted in water for oral dose to be taken twice. She Xiang is added when the decoction is about to be taken.

This prescription is mainly composed of drugs warm and dry in nature, so it should not be administered any longer once the cold limbs of a patient become warm.
