The drug is the fresh or dried entire herb of Zebrina pendula Schnizl. (family Commelinaceae), distributed originally in Mexico, cultivated in most areas of China.

Property
Sweet, cold, toxic; bladder, lung and large intestine meridians entered.
Actions
It is used to remove toxic heat, reduce heat from blood, induce diuresis; for the treatment of hemoptysis, sore throat, inflammation of the eyes, dysentery, edema, stranguria, morbid leucorrhea, carbuncles and sores, burns and scalds, snake bites, difficult urination.
Dosage and Administrations
Decoct 15~30 g, or 60~90 g of the fresh, or pounded into juice for drinking. Proper dosage is for external application, pounded for applying.
Contraindication
It is contraindicated to pregnant women.
