The drug is the dried rhizome of Arthromeris mairei (Brause) Ching (Family Polypodiaceae), growing in moist places under woods or in crevices, and distributed in Shaanxi, Guizhou, Sichuan, Yunnan and Tibet of China.

Property
Bitter, slightly astringent, slightly cold, slightly toxic.
Actions
Rhizomes is used to dredge collaterals, remove food stagnancy, relax the bowels and remove fire, for the treatment of osteodynia caused by rheumatism, sciatica, headache, abdominal distension cauded by retention of undigested food, constipation, conjunctival congestion and toothache.
Dosage and Administrations
Decoct 3~6 g, or soaked in wine.
Contraindication
It is contraindicated to pregnant women, the old and the weak.
