The drug is the dried aerial part of Clematis filamentosa Dunn (farmily Ranunculaceae), growing along creeks or in ravines, dense woods or thickets; and distributed in Guangdong, Hainan, Guangxi, Yunnan of China.

Its leaf contains flavonoids, saccharides, polysaeeharides, steroils, phenols, tanin, aminoaeids, ete.

Property
Bitter and slightly cool; heart and liver meridians entered.
Actions
It is used to tranquilize the mind, clear liver-fire, relieve pain and reduce blood pressure.
Indications
Headache, dizziness, conjunctivitis, hypertension, numbness of the extremities, insomnia, rheumatic arthritis, acute toothache, etc.
Dosage and Administrations
Decoct 9~15 g. Proper dosage is for external application, pounded and then plug the affected tooth.
