Ingredients

Explanation

Hou Po: One of the principal drugs, being bitter and pungent in flavor and warm in nature, promoting the circulation of Qi, resolving dampness.

Huang Lian: The other principal drug, being bitter in flavor and cold in nature, clearing away heat, drying dampness.

Shan Zhi and Dou Chi: Clearing away stagnated heat in the chest and epigastric region.

Chang Pu: Removing dampness through its aromatic nature so as to benefit the spleen.

Ban Xia: Drying dampness, checking upward adverse flow of Qi and regulating the function of the stomach.

Lu Gen: Clearing away heat and dampness, regulating the stomach to relieve vomiting.

Clearing away heat and dampness, promoting the flow of Qi and regulating the function of the spleen and stomach.

Indications

Syndrome of failure of descending of the stomach-Qi and failure of ascending of the spleen-Qi both due to the retention of damp-heat, marked by sudden vomiting and diarrhea in cholera morbus, fullness in the chest and epigastrium, scanty deep-colored urine, and yellowish greasy tongue coating; including such diseases with the above symptoms as typhoid fever and acute gastroenteritis.
